Hello my name is Bill Vergara I am one of the Head Instructors of Family Martial Arts Academy. I have been teaching at the same location for over  12 years now. I am a 5th Degree Black Belt in Goju-Ryu Karate Do. My accreditations include a Bachelors Degree from F.I.U., I am certified through the American Council Of Martial Arts, Inter Collegiate Martial Arts Association, and World Sansei Organization. I am a member of the Martial Arts Teachers Association,  National Association of Professional Martial Artist and International Ryuku- Jitsu Research Society. In 2007 I was inducted into the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

In Family Martial Arts Academy we not only know Martial Arts , we know how to teach it properly. Many schools out there claim to teach the best Martial Arts systems, but most of them are newly created hybrid systems which are developed for Tournament Competition, many instructors are not even formal Black Belts, because they competed in a few competitions they feel that they have enough experience and are qualified to teach others this same type of hybrid system. At F.M.A.A. you will be able to trace your Karate lineage back to Okinawa and its Founder Chojun Miyagi.

Our system Goju-Ryu Karate Do has been Battle tested and proven through time it is not a system developed through Rules Competition. Be careful with many schools who claim to teach Reality Based Self Defense because of their commitment to Mix Martial Arts rules fighting, they will claim that this type of Rules Based fighting is real. It is not!  In a recent Discovery Channel Program, Karate was rated as the Most Effective martial art. In a Real Life Fight Scenario, eye gouging, hair pulling, cavity pressing, biting is all common, all of these techniques are illegal in Mixed Martial Arts. We will teach you how to defend yourself against any of these techniques through a system that has been developed and used for hundreds of years.

You will learn Kata ; self defense system handed down through hundreds of years. Nage Waza ; the art of throwing, not the watered down version as seen on T.V. but the real throwing systems used by the Shaolins and Samurais to incapacitate their opponents. Ne Waza; the original art of grappling and groundfighting with 78 different techniques. Goshin Jitsu Waza : art of joint manipulation and body control. All of this has been developed under one system Goju- Ryu Karate Do.

Although all of this sometimes seems a little bit scary, believe me its not, we teach Karate in a progressive manner using a system of colored belts, starting with the White Belt and finishing with a Black Belt. The higher the Belt the more knowledge you will obtain. We are a Black Belt school and our ultimate goal is to make you a Black Belt. This roughly takes 3 to 5 years to obtain. We have been privileged to have awarded over 40 registered Black Belts. Typically 3 to 5 students are awarded this honor every year. This is an achievement that when reached will last you a lifetime.

So what’s stopping you from becoming a Black Belt, here are some of the most common excuses

1 - Do not have time. All you need is to attend classes 2 to 3 times per week for 1 hour a day, when you think about it, it really does not seem like much does it?

2 - I am out of shape, I need to get in shape first. Think about that you need to get in shape first ? That’s what we are all about getting you in shape, we are so good we have personal trainers that take our class. Our system is progressive you train at your own rate based on your age and physical condition. We do not expect you to come in on the first day and train the way a Black Belt would train.

3 - I am scared to come in I might get hurt. The bravest person in the school is the new student, they come in trying something different not knowing what to expect. At F.M.A.A. we are a Family Oriented school.  I guarantee you that you will not get hurt, we put great emphasize on safety and teach progressively we never put a student in a position they are not ready for.

So now whats stopping you. Do not procrastinate any further, if you have read all of this you are ready to start now. So email us or call 786-337- KICK (5425) and we could start you on your way to becoming a Black Belt.
